Members Update
Dear Members,

I hope this message finds you well.
The committee are pleased to provide you with an update on the club’s progress and key developments over the past twelve months. During this period, we have seen a notable increase in class attendance, reflecting the continued enthusiasm and engagement of our members. In response to this growth, the club staff are currently reviewing the class timetable and will introduce a number of new and additional sessions to better cater to a wider range of interests and fitness levels.

We have also undertaken a comprehensive review of our gym equipment. As part of this process, we have been able to collaborate with our partner club in Seascale, who recently secured funding to invest in new equipment. This has enabled us to obtain selected items from them, further enhancing the facilities available to our members.

In addition, we have been proactive in seeking external funding opportunities and have successfully secured support from Active Cumbria, Live Longer Better (new equipment), and GDF to the tune of £11.5k. These funds have allowed us to expand our GP referral programme and invest in the continued professional development of our staff.

Some funding has also contributed to our junior squash programme, allowing us to invite local schools into the facility to try the sport. We remain committed to identifying and pursuing further funding and partnership opportunities to support the long-term sustainability and growth of the club and already new targets have been identified for 2026-27.

We would also like to confirm that there will been no increase in membership fees for 2026. We are extremely grateful for the continued loyalty and support of our members, and we remain dedicated to maintaining a high-quality, clean, and secure environment for all who use our facilities.

We continue to maintain four squash courts to a high standard, with all necessary upkeep and repairs carried out promptly as required. Our junior programme remains strong, with coaching sessions held every Wednesday evening under the guidance of club coach Gavin Stephenson and it is fantastic to see several of our juniors regularly competing in regional and national events. For adults, we offer both mixed and ladies only coaching sessions on Tuesday evenings, free of charge. These sessions are perfect for beginners or anyone interested in trying squash for the first time.

Our recent club championships were a great success, featuring squash and racketball competitions alongside well-supported ladies’ and veterans’ events. Our men’s county league team has had an outstanding season, securing the Division 1 Cumbria Squash League title for the second year running. The team will also be competing in the Cumbria County Cup final in Carlisle later this month, best of luck to them!

Finally, I would like to inform you of a recent staffing update. Barbara Telfer has retired from her role as Gym Manager, to take a long and well-earned rest. We thank her for her contribution and dedication to the club over the past 30 years. We are pleased to welcome David Mullins, who has taken on the position and will become increasingly present within the club. David will work closely with the SASRA Manager, the existing staff, and committee to further enhance and develop our facilities and services.
As always we thank you for your continued support.
