Windscale Squash and Fitness Facility 2025 Membership.
Dear member,
Happy New Year from WSRC and here's is to a fit and healthy 2025.
With health in mind our recent facility survey has highlighted several areas for improvement
within the facility both in terms of new equipment, facilities, and additional classes.
These improvements include:
New Core Area,
New items of Cardio and Resistance Equipment,
Replacement Spinning Bikes,
Repair/replacement of the men’s Steam room to rectify the leaking floor,
New-additional classes.
To achieve these improvements the club will need to make provisions within its future budgets to
fund the associated capital costs (circa £50K) which we aim to execute over the next 3 years. We
will also look to maintain a strategic reserve fund to cover items such as roofs and the building
fabric. As we often remind people WSRC and SASRA are standalone from Sellafield Ltd and have
been since 2009.
Over the last 12 months the Windscale Squash and Fitness Facility has continued to see increases
in operating, resourcing, and consumable costs.
? Power charges continue to remain high not just the unit rates but also the standing
charges which have increased significantly in recent years.
? There has been erosion of the Council Tax rebate we received against all our facilities from
70% to 40%.
? The wage bill is increasing yet again with the Government National Living Wage
increasing between 8-18%.
? National Insurance contributions are moving from 13% to 15%.
? Some items which were previously picked up in the SASRA Central Budget e.g. Insurance are being allocated to WSRC and the other SASRA departments, an additional cost.
In 2024 we invested further funds to upgrade the Squash Courts (lights and floors), heating and
ventilation systems, electrical distribution, security, and fire systems.
The wider SASRA organization is looking at ways to reduce its costs such as Community Sports Club
status (rates benefit), Solar Energy schemes and new income streams along with challenging its
suppliers for better deals.
However, to meet these demands we will need to increase our Monthly Membership Fees from 1st
February 2025.
A Single Subscription will increase by £4 per month to £40
Family membership by £6 per Month to £60
Squash 2020 will increase by £2 to £26. This scheme will be discontinued going forward.
Fit Start and Retired will increase by £2 for single and £3 for family members to £20 and £30.
Juniors (14-18 years and those in full time education) will increase by £2 per month to £20
Under 14’s under review and all those affected will be notified of any changes.
SASRA Monthly membership remains unchanged for 2025 at £2.
